Mikhail Nefedov was born in the village of Sedmiozerka, Tatar ASSR, on 12 November 1936. He Finished Kazan Art School in 1952.
Since 1975 he has been a member of the Union of Rassian Artits.
He presented his works at art shows in Moscow , Kazan, and Yoshkar-Ola, as well as Drouot in Paris From 1995 on he has lived and worked in the village of Raifa, the Republic of Tatarstan, near Raifa Monastery of the Mother of God.
Mikhail Nefedov`s artistic range is extraordinarily large. The acknowledged master of impressionist landscapes, he has been creating portraits all his life. When Nefedov lived in Baykanur, he devoted much of his time to industrial genre in an attempt to study human souls and characters though the alembic of hard and dangerous work of spaceport construction workers . In recent decades the artist has worked a lot in religious, historical, and mythological genres. His paintings change constantly exampling a unique creative search.
His aspiration to liken pictorial layers that seems transparent and shaky technically and, what is more important, conceptually to same mysterious space-temporal veil has been typical of the artist for a long time. In the far off 70`s, when their colors were rich and bright , Nefedov`s creation first started to reveal variable objects and phenomena of subtle essence, which reminded of letters of an ancient demanding palimpsest. The works he created during that period were extraordinary diverse even for such a polyphonic artist. You may feel that the artist that had never ceased active search for harmonious shapes and contents for his works stepped onto a path he had known little about before.
One of Nefedov`s typical works dating back to the period is “May” (1979).The painting features a shadowlike solder that never came back home from war; wind that opened the curtain seems stiff in gaping open windows; little trees of the spring that never arrived for somebody dolefully reach out to the sky. And it is just the fragile figure of a naked boy the artist depicted in a denser layer shows white becoming a visible source of tremulous hope and symbol of peace and love. Another work “Flax” dating back to the same year (1979) features an absolutely different atmosphere and the same timeless pictorial complexity. Yung flexible village girls harvest flax standing among stems almost waist-deep; the road leading far beyond the rounded horizon seems to be leading to the future. Unplucked rampant flax stems are like light delicate flame – symbol of undying life – shining in painting`s foreground.
Over the time the master`s colors grew lighter. His genre art creations style became more graphical austere. Mikhail Nefedov created a lot of portraits of artistic people like his painting “The Artist”
